You mean the top cap preload bolt? Should only use this to adjust the bearings, and only be adjusted when the stem bolts are loosened. I am not quite sure how you have done this! All I can think of is that you have sheered the threads. can you look back up the steerer and see whats going on when you turn it?

When you look up the steerer you can see the bolt turning. the bolt had a flat part above the threads so i think i might had turn to far so iam now on the flat part and not the threads0

I would take it into a shop to have a look at tbh. Can you grasp any of the bolt with pliers, and pull as you unscrew it?

Theres a bit of bolt above the top cap and the top cap is turning around but theres not quite enough bolt to get hold of.0

You might have to drill it out.

ive had this kinda thin happen on normal bolts etc, uve gotta put some pressure on the bolt to get the threads kinda working again, it sounds like uve stripped them and the bolt is just turning inside the other threads but having no affect, this probs wont work but worth a try- make sure the stem bolts are loose and get 1 person to hold frame while another pulls hard down on forks then turn the bolt! keep the pressure on the frame/forks constant and turn the bolt slowly! thats the best i can think of doing other than drilling the bolt out! sorry dude!

Do the King headsets use a traditional star flangled nut in the steerer? If so, can you not bash it up out of the steerer from beneath with a hammer and long screwdriver?

Was my favourite weapon when I was a mechanic, along with the angle grinder and earplug. yes, leave your 5k bike with me, I'll have that crank off... Let me lock the door...

In my garage I have oxy-acetylene and a spot wielder and a big f-off petrol angle grinder. All very useful for *little* jobs
