Kirroughtree is way better than Dalbeattie.
Both are strangeish trails as they undulate a lot rather than having epic climbs and then lengthy descents. K'tree has more fun sections and is a lot more interesting. I think it's one of the best trails in Scotland. I used to hate Dalbeattie as it only had about 2 or 3 good bits and too much fireroad. They've built some nice new stuff there and really improved it a lot but it's still not as good as K'tree, Innerleithen or Glentress IMHO.
I like Mabie, but it's a fast, short, more old school XC route and not to everybody's tastes. Ae is a bit strange. It's got some nice sections but too much boring fireroad and the first part of the big descent has really badly designed jumps. The next part is often spoiled by freeride monkeys pushing back up in the middle of the trail.
If I was heading Dumfries way for a couple of days then I'd defo ride K'tree and either Dalbeattie or Mabie the next day, and would save Ae for if I was getting bored of the others. However, you'd get a very good couple of days riding as well if you went to Glentress and Innerleithen.

Aye, Kirroughtree - second Hamish's comments about Ae.

IMO they are rated
1: Kirroughtree
2: Innerleithen
3: Glentress Black
4: Glentress Red
5: Mabie
6: Dalbeattie
7: Ae
Doubt I would bother going back to Ae (have been there four times), all the others are well worth a visit. Even although I have put Dalbeattie at 6 it is an excellent trail and I am looking forward to going to it again next weekend (the day after doing Kirroughtree)
