  • What did you think of it? It's something I might try this summer as it's not too far from a train station.

Great ride that has everything - steep uphills and downhills; Land Rover track and singletrack; tarred sections and twisty footpath sections. Pedal on for another half mile at the top (before point 4) and there is a reservoir which makes a great sandwich stop. The tarred road (shown as untarred on OS map) comes to an end at the dam but there is a winding path after this that goes through a tunnel in the hillside, coming out at an inspection bridge over the water. The track is wide on the way up and at the top but it undulates and twists on the way down, some of the terrain requiring you to carry the bike (it is signed as a footpath). It is also very wet underfoot after rain on the way down. Beware that this is a route used by walkers and on good days there's hordes of them. But, as I stated, the paths are wide enough for all at the start. Just take care on the singletrack. The views are good and there is plenty of parking at the start. It only takes four hours start to finish - and there is the option of continuing past the downhill turn-off shown to descend towards Loch Lomond for a "busy road" finish.
