Possible issue with 2007 RockHoppers

I had my chainrings, chain and cassette on my Rockhopper Pro Disc replaced yesterday because they had worn after only 500 miles. Peter Bird at The Bicycle Hub did the work and he pointed out to me that my chainline was skewed. The cause: I've got a 118mm bottom bracket rather than a 113mm.
Peter showed me the Specicialized manual which states clearly that I need a 113. Thing is, the Specialized website shows 118 as the standard. Peter thinks they have it wrong.
I saw the chainline as it was on middle-middle and it was definitely not parallel to the frame. This most likely caused the excessive wear to my drivetrain. As I've just spent œ150 getting it replaced with some good quality components, I'm going to have to replaced the bottom bracket as well very soon at an estimated cost of œ30. I'm going to try and claim through the supplier of the bike. I think I may have a fight on my hands [}:)]

If you've been riding over the winter then I would only expect to get 500 miles from a chain and cassette. I would usually change my inner chainring at this time anyway to prevent chainsuck.
It sounds like normal wear and tear to me, and i'll be suprised if you more than a new BB out of it.

I've only had the bike just over 2 months. Most of the miles have been on tarmac and I'm fairly religious regarding cleaning and lubing. Drivetrains should not have as much wear as mine did after only 500 miles.
That's beside the point, the BB is wrong. It should be (I would imagine) a Deore ES30 68x113. Spesh reckon the chainline is 50mm when it should be 47.5mm.0 -
It is odd for tarmac rides. I would expect more miles than that. You probably need to talk to spesh UK.

Would be interested to know what happens stefan when you speak to spesh!I have a RH Pro 07 and have covered about the same distance but all is ok with my drive train.0

Some manufacturers spec 50mm chainlines rather than a 'standard' 47.5. Sometimes it depends on the frames tube dimensions. I cant honestly say that a 2.5mm difference will cause such an accelerated wear. Sheldon Brown has a good article on this.
