Guys, for a friend looking for a budget bike < 400.
GT Avalanche 3.0 disk
or
Spesh Hardrock Sport disk
?
Or any other suggestions?
How does he stand with warranty on the GTs now?
Thanks in advance.

why not the Avalanche 2.0 which is similar in price to the Hardrock Sport Disc ?
IMO the Avalanche as the Specialized is heavier, and you can feel it
Trek 60000 -
Avalanche out of the two.

Depends what sort of riding you are looking at doing.
GT is lighter but more for XC, Spesh is made for more aggressive riding hence the diff in weight, both have frames worthy of upgrades. Have you had chance to test either.

The best Avalanche you can afford, I agree the 2.0 is a worth while upgrade to the 3.0. You may even get a 2006 1.0 for a similar price. The 1.0 with V brakes is œ369. May be cheaper else where??0

Other bikes I would consider at this price point would be
Tyax Super
Giant Terrago

What is the warranty on frames / components etc? I thought they went bust?0

They went into administration a few years back and were bought by Pacific (who also own Mongoose)

No problems with warranty at all.
Avalanche are the better bike IMO, the Hardrock has lost its way lately.
