Stuck Seat Post

What about trying whatever plumbers use to freeze pipes prior to cutting. This should make the post contract.

I had the same problem on my old bike, it had been stuck for a good 10 years! After trying everything else, I resorted to the hacksaw:

-Saw off post about 30mm above top of seat tube

-Cut two 5mm wide vertical slots at 180 degrees to each other, from the top of the post to the top of the seat tube

-Remove blade from hacksaw, continue cutting inside seatpost to extend these cuts downwards an inch or so

You should now be able to crush the post enough to leave a small gap between the post and the frame. Squirt loads of GT85 down there and leave it overnight.

A good few hours swearing got me this far, but the next day I was able to twist the post quite easily using some mole grips. Once you can twist it you're laughing, it will pull right out.

The hacksaw is pretty much the last resort, but it always works!

Vice and heaving always the first port of call, can always saw it out later. Plus Gas is quite a potent loosener of siezed parts.

Yep.

We did the 'freeze' yesterday with an old CO2 fire extinguisher - didn't budge.

The bike is currently upside down, with the seat tube filled with WD40 - it was leaking out of the bottle cage bosses. It will stay like that overnight and I'll see how it is in the morning.

I really don't want to. I'm not bothered about the seat post, but the frame is rather special. I'll try everything else first though. Apparently you can get Amonia from Boots - I'll have a blast at that.

Have you tried hitting the post to try and loosen it?

Take the saddle off, put a flat piece of wood on the top of the post and give it a bash.

try putting the seatpost in a vice an use then frame to turn, this has always worked for me,

Plug up any holes like the BB shell, frame holes (where it meets another tube) and bottle cage mounts.
Pour in a 500ml bottle of coke. Seal the top of the seatpost (but so the coke is a high enough level to do any good) then turn the bike upside down for a couple of days to let the coke soak in.

Sometimes works. No great loss if it doesn't.

Tried the saddle in a vice and twisting - broke the saddle

Tried the saddle clamp in the vice and twisting - broke the saddle clamp (which now turns in the post)

Tried a pipe gripper/spanner/thingymajig + 4ft pry bar - have now deformed the post.

I'll give the coke a try as I'm running out of ideas.

I think your best bet is either to get the frame/post much colder. Like get it supercool with CO2 fire extinguishers, you should be able to get it a long way below 298K or saw it and carefully cut it out of the tube. If you want to try really cooling it down then you'll need about 20 CO2 fire extinguishers and a large open space, fire the first extinguisher onto the second, the second onto the third etc and the twentieth onto the bike. Then pull out the post with mole grips, or indeed anything apart from your bare hand. It might be a good idea to wear gloves when doing this. Alternatively liquid nitrogen can probably be got somewhere.

OMG El Capt.. thats well and truely stuck.. don't hit the seatpost down as i suspect you will deform the seat tube in the frame...

It'd probably go through a few reamers but it'd eventually work.

I would try some Plus Gas, its postent stuff. That plus a vice, some strong people and ear plugs will have the sucker out.
