halfords replacement bikes

Need to replace my bike on the house insurance, anyway I can only do it though halfords. Am I able to order any bike I so wish though halfords, or just those that they deal with. Just wondering after reading on here that it is possible to get "any bike" though halfords. Am I missreading this? Otherwise I really like the look of the mongoose tyax, is this possible?
If not the kraken looks a bit of stunner. Any thoughts? needless to say if I was to order a bike though halfords it would mean not being able to test it untill I was already commited to buying it right?
btw is there much differene between either of forks on the mongoose or kraken any say somthing like a dart 2?

Halfords do a good range, so be worth trying there's out. When I worked there you could order most other brands (they stock GT and Kona too) but you may not get chance to test it. This is important.
So I guess you have around 3-400 quid and want a general purpose MTB for paths, woods and trails? if so the Kraken is good. I would say the Dart 2 is a better frok, and so is the Mongooses, but the standard XCr aint bad at all.

Yep I agree, Konas are poorly specced. The Aggressor is superbly specced for the money. Basically the same guy at halfords specs them and knows his onions. I'd take the GT over the Kraken on spec and ride.

Most halfords have a catalogue of bies you can order in store...
And if i remember correctly there is quite a big range, Including konas and GTs not normally kept in stock in store. If i were you i would contact your insurance company to clarify if they mean ANY bike then it worth a look
As for the Kraken ive got one and its a great bike, Although mines got a few upgrades now And it handles riding in the peaks ok not fallen to bits yet [:)]

Hmm thats interesting ill pop down and ask to take a look at whats in stock and what can be got in. And most importantly see if i can have a test ride.
Thanks0 -
GT GT GT GT GT!!! get an Aggressor 2! Although if its an insurance replacement you can phone up and order whatever bike you wish! The Agg 2 is a corker for œ399.99 tho!

Not many better for 400 quid. Good fork and brakes, great frame, 9 spd. Compare it to something like the Hardrock sport - blows it away.

Wait a second isn't ANYTHING with spesh on it instantly better... right?0 -
Absolutely not lol. The hardrock is heavy and underspecced compared to its rivals.

I know the guy who specs the GTs. Clever guy!
I'd go for the GT too, it's great. In fact.... here's a secret... ssssh, I've got an Aggressor (XCR frame)

i like the gts cos they have all the right bits on em, eg reliable shimano deore stuff (not cheapo plastic sram x4/x5) a good quality frame, its made in Taiwan by Merida (they make all specialized too) so the frame is quality, RS dart 2 fork which actually works! Also it isnt that heavy compared to most of our other bikes around the same price (14.1kg for 18"). Steer clear of the carreras the frames are made in Thailand and are pretty pants.

Thailand makes little difference to quality, some of the facilities are just as good as anywhere else. I think the Fury frame is excellent!

But its a spesh, its a well known fact that anything with a spesh badge is better, come on everyone knows that.
Example:
1. Buy the cheapest, crapest appollo halfords sell
2. Attach spesh bottle holder
3. List on ebay
4. Proffit
do you need any futher proof?
Its a fact specialized are the best bike brand ever, anyone whos anyone knows that a hardrock sport beats anything not baring the holy crest. That means go get a massive spesh tattoo on your chest. Repent from your triple triangle ways, buy a hardrock sport {often mistaken for being heavy it merely comes with enough extra metal to melt down a tube and make a full set of pans just in case you get a puncture (not likey with aerospace grade tyres and tubes, same ones they use on the eurofighter...honest go check google 26inch spesh tubes) and need to cook a meal in the wilderness}
All hail specialized.
<s>btw anyone else think the hardrock sport looks a little ugly?</s> ...eerr GO SPESH!0 -

Heathen! Dare question the will of the one true bike!
UNLEASH THE ZELOTS
EDIT: On a less of topic note, I can't quite find out do dart 2's have lockout?0 -
vulcan kraken frames seem to have a really poor finish, and we have had one kraken back cracked already! The Fury, Banshee and most of the Saracens (made in same factory in Thailand) seem to be of a higher quality tho........ we had a Carrera TDF SE turn up on thursday and i was made in Taiwan by merida so i dunno if we are going back to them, or its just some of the new models. New Apollo SE range starts soon i think its between current Carrera and Apollo ie œ150-œ200 price range)

Some Dart2 have lockout, others don't. Some are models made for the manufacturer with upgraded internals.

I know for a fact that you can still get the 06 fury for 400 . Good spec for the price but not many of them left in circulation.0
