the trouble with louise

I'v got a pair of 2001 magura louise brakes that were working fine then i took the hose off to fit them, put them back together (followed the manual) and they don't work (unless you pump them a few times) the resevour cover has a cut in it were oil can excape but it looks like it is ment to be there as its neat and in the middle.
any ideas?

the is air inside the brake line. i suggest you take it to a LBS to be bled correctly.
