Front mech jamming.

Changing up to the big ring on the front is very noisy and clunky. It keeps on jamming at times. There is also a clicking noise as I pedal in the big ring.
The derailler set up appears to be ok. Any ideas?

Check the front cage is parallel to the chainrings and is sitting 2mm off of the large cog. then check the cage is centred above the large cog and adjust the H screw to make sure it can reach that far

Went out last night and exactly the same thing happened to me. I had tuned the front and rear mech the previous evening for alignment, so wouldn't have thought it was that? Also, it only happens when in the middle front ring too. Odd.
I shall eagerly await the responses on this thread closely. I'm on a Peak District weekend next weekend, and can't be done with all that jamming-up and general rubbish front mech behaviour.

is the chain catching on the front mech, if it is go on to park tools and look how to realign you front mech, but if they chain is sticking to the cogs for longer than it should, ( chain suck ) check the chain from tight links also the drive train maybe worn, some one will be along who can give more exact advice, tom

Sounds like the front mech cage is sitting a bit low, so that it catches on the big ring.0

After about a week of adjusting and re-adjusting the mech, and having real difficulty in getting either side to sit away from the chain, I removed it yesterday.
It was then blatantly obvious that the mech is bent and twisted! Very difficult to see when it was on the frame!
Off to buy a new mech today.
Do wonder how I managed to do that though. It looks like its taken a hell of a whack.

Blatantly your foot did it, nothing else is that likely to get in there, that or another bike pedal did it when leant up against something

Could have been a stone getting caught in it as you pedaled or something.

Right. Got a new front mech and fitted a new cable while I was about it. The bike was changing gear perfectly.
Then my little accident happened on Tuesday evening when I managed to wrap my inner tube around my rear mech and wrap the chain around the cranks.
Took the bike out last night and it was changing quite badly -I noticed the chain rubbing against the mech. Spent an hour fiddling with it tonight. When I get it set up perfectly in the high and low, it rubs on the middle ring. So I loosen off the cable tension to solve that and then it rubs on the high and low.
Round and round in circles I go. Should I tighten the cable right up, with the screws down and work from there? Or should I loosen off the cable?
Should I take the whole thing off and start again from scratch?
I'm having no luck at all with this bloody front mech. [:(!][:(!][:(!]
