Does Fox Make a Float 100mm travel fork?
I am ordering a bike (hardtail) and fork from the USA and my local UK dealer said get a Fox Float with about 100mm of travel on it and avoid the bigger 140mm sizes.
Trouble is as far as I can see they don't make a 100mm Float or even a 120mm Float. The only one I can see is a 140mm.
Could people just check this is the case and I'm not going mad?
(The only 100mm I can see is the F Series F100 [2008] which I have ordered, but still have a day to change my mind I would think).
Thanks

I have looked on the fox website and can't see below 140mm either, however, the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp 2007 has 120mm. Some bike appear to have Fox float 100mm but are approx 3 years old so may no longer be available?? I can't find below 140 advertised but they definately do exist.
If you can get hold of the 120mm I do recommend them, as above they are on my Stumpy and very good in my opinion.0 -
hmm it seems you can adjust the spacers inside the float 140mm (see manual on the site) to make it a 100mm travel fork. Would this effect performance compared with a native 100mm fork?0

The F100 is a Float 100. 32mm stantions, air sprung and available with the RLC cartridge.

also you can use a 130 or 140 fork and insert a 30 or 40 mm spacer respectively and reduce the travel to 100mm.

Yup, as said the F100 series are Floats. F100R and RL come only as OE, you can buy the RLC and X versions. But to tell you the truth, I wouldn't spend the œ500+ a float costs unless it came with the bike... A pair of Rock Shox Rebas will do the trick for half the price.

lol.. you can't compare reba's to F100's like that... there IS a difference..
you ever ridden F100's and rebas back to back..
the Fox are FAR FAR stiffer.
the reba IS easier to configure and has a wider range of adjustments but the Fox is pretty much fit n forget.. other than a dash of oil on the stanchion pillows to keep the forks oiled that is it.

Well, I have to admit I have only ridden F100's... Pretty happy with their performance, but I could do with them +/- chamber adjustment in the Reba's me thinks... Being only around 11 stone I could do with less stiffness too. Don't take me wrong, I love my Floats, that is why I bought this bike, but if I was to buy them new I would save the money. Again, not a totally informed decision, only based on theoretical value for money [;)]

I just spoke to a guy who said the F-series really aren't good at soaking up the bumps and that they only go down when you 'hit' something rather than reacting to the terrain, and that the Floats DO react to the terrain well.
Hmmm any advice on this?
(i.e is that rubbish or does he have a point )
PS
(I will get 2008 models [if they are available yet ])0 -
He is talking half educated rubbish. The X is like that, the RLC is just a conventional fork (albeit with plenty of adjustment).

Also, obviously a 100mm fork won't soak the bumps up as well as a 140mm fork.

Hmm, I had F80's and replaced them with Reba 100s, and to be honest I find the Rebas to be a better fork. Certainly no difference in stiffness as far as I could tell.
Now my Float 130's are a wee bit flexy when pushed.
