Brakes! Help before I do something stupid...

My old pads got contaminated with oil after I'd lent my bike to a mate, no bother, they were due for replacement soon-ish, just sooner than I thought. Ok, new pads are in, while I had the whels off, I de-greased the rotors, put it all back together and started going about getting the new pads bedded in. Only after about my 5th or 6th hard fast stop do they start making this incredible noise, what I can only describe as a screeching. Any ideas how to stop this. I'm using Tecktro hydraulics with the correct pads.

Nope no idea some brakes do it. Have you change style of pads?

Normally a bit of grease on the BACK of the pads will stop them squealing.

It could also be that your calipers aren't quite in line with your rotors.

I never even though of putting grease on the back of the pads. I checked the alignment, everything looks ok. Will try greasing them tomorrow when I get home from work. Thanks for the swift replies all!

Only use copper slip on the back of the pads as a last resort.

Try realigning the calipers 1st.

Put some mud on the disks and pads and do some heavy braking, that will take the glaze off and may stop the resonance. Copper greqse if fine on the backs of pads (not too much though)

realign the calipers as well

The pads may be glazed take them out and rub them on some fine sandpaper.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I've managed to cure the problem.

Also, maybe it's just me, but my brakes don't seem to be as powerful as they once were? I'm thinking that I've just perhaps got used to them...?

Pads vary, and they will have to bed in again.
