I have one and can't find a fault with it. Perfect all mountain-XC bike for beginners. Strong components, relaxed riding position and geometry and very forgiving frame. Still, you can only know if it is the bike for you by trying it! A trip round the carpark will tell you more than any forum.

It's a good bike, also consider the Carrera Fury (from Halfords) & Claude Butler Cape Wrath D27.
Go test them out & see which fits you & your riding style best.

Hi
I'm also looking to buy the Avalanche 1.0.
As I'm pretty much a novice (only had a Claud Butler Ravana before) I'm wondering if its worth spending a œ100 extra to get the Avalanche 1.0 rather than the 2.0. The extra money isnt too much of an issue, just dont want to spend extra œ100 unnecessarily...
Is it effectively the brakes and forks which are different? Just to check - do they both come with disc brakes?
I'm quite a keen rider, and would like to get off road a bit more.
I'd be grateful if someone could advise on this.
Cheers in advance!

The 1.0 has 27 gears as well and its a bit lighter

The 1.0 is 9 speed too.
For many comments on both machines, hit the search button.

Thanks for the link!
Think I prefer the paint job better on the 1.0 than the 2.0 as well!
If you didnt already know...wiggle.co.uk give you œ50 of free stuff when you buy this bike!

Make sure you try it first! Cheaper online is not always better. Local shop backup can be worth more than you save.

A shop will probably also throw in œ50 of free stuff if you ask nicely. If you have the money the 1.0 is well worth it for the extra œ100. Does the 2.0 come with LX mech in the back too?

Sod it now I'm just thinking about getting the Avalanche 3.0.
My last two Claud Butlers got stolen, so not sure if it makes sense to get even more expensive bike!
Would getting the 3.0 be too bad a thing?!?

Don't let thieves ruin your biking. Thieves will nick any bike as long as they can take it. You're better off getting the bike that'll put a smile on your face, and just consider different/better security options. DON'T LET THEM WIN!!!
As a side, a friend of mine (new to MTB'ing) just bought the GT Av 2.0. He thinks it's great.

i think the paint job on the 2.0 is better than the 1.0, in fact if the 1.0 looked like the 2.0 id own one now instead of the Trek 6000 i bought instead

Jonny,
I'm popping into Evans tomorrow to give it a go.
Where did you purchase from, did you manage to get any freebies or anything?
What lock did you go for? My bro has had two avalanches nicked in the past!

Does anyone know the date when the GT Avalanche 1.0 2007 was released? Don't want to buy to find they release the 2008 model in a few months time!
On a different note, can anyone recommend a good lock and bike insurance company? I'm guessing theres probably another forum for these questions...

Hmm, I suspect the 08 model will be with us in mid-August / Early september, I think....

The first bunch arrive Early August. But that date will probably slip so more like End of August.0
