hey guys

am in the process of buying new brakes and am undicided maybe u lot can help. i ride mainly xc and single track. so what do you recon, 2007 mono minis, or avid juicy 7.

Its 50/50. Personally I would take the avid, the adjuster helps fine tune.

thats what i was thinkin, but i can get a set aof avids for œ180 all in so i think ill go with them. do u know if you can fit goodridge hoses to avid brakes

You can fit Goodridge hoses to Juicy's although apparently Avid says that you should only use their hose. TBH there's really not that much difference between Juicy 7's with a Goodridge kit and the stock item and this is form experience as I have Juicy 7's on my Stumpy and the Kona, one with a Goodridge kit and one without, probably wouldn't even notice it apart from the nice braided hoses.

If you want my advice I'd save your money mate unless you just want to pimp it.

I would say hope just i like the feel of them better. And a floating rotor ungrade is less if you get it with the brake.

Haven't tried the hope's but i hate my avid's. too much power, not enough modulation, and I even got mine to overheat and stop working the other day. Not a happy bunny [:(]

hmmm now im hearing conflicting views, i aint interested in floatin rotors a bit of a gimmick IMO. too much power you recon, not shure i understand that. had hopes on old bike before it was knicked but that was before they turned silver. are the new hopes improved on 06 version?

Im more than happy with my hope mini`s plus the bling is an added extra.Seems like your trying to talk yourself out of the hopes so get the avids.You will always here good and bad stories.Lots of people knock hope but they had a great review in wmbmag.[:)]

I am a newbie to this sport too, but I can just talk about my experience... They are very squeaqy too... Have you looked at the shimano range? They ain't bad either...

The previous batch of hopes were apparently not very good, but i have no complaints other than a little squeeking in the wet, with mine.

The current batch of Juicy brakes seem to be raising a fair few problems at the moment. Never had a problem with the 05 and 06 versions but I don't think I'd buy 07's as I keep on hearing/seeing issues with them.

Have only heard good things about Hope recently and I absolutely love my Deore 525's with the Goodridge upgrade, probably more so than my Juciy 7's.

haddnt heard that about the 07 jiucy 7's interesting, its not that im trying to talk myself out of the hopes its the price of the juicys that is swaying me and the colour of the 07 hopes i aint that keen on, which i know shouldnt influence an overall decicion. and whilst all your posts are helpfull they are also makin my deciding hard.

The 07 hopes are much much better then the 06 hopes. I had the 05 (smae as the 06) hopes on my stiffee, and they were ok, b ut now I have the motos and they are amazing, so have just ordered the hope minis for my new bike.

Have you thought about trying them both? As far as i can tell from listening to avid fans the two have very different feels. You'll probably only get on with one or t'other.

i got my juicy 7's for about œ130 a pair with 185mm rotors and they are superb.
Really wanted M4's but the juicy's were such a good price.

I love my 2007 minis, they're a little under powered, but the lever shape is spot on.

Having read a lot about different brakes and thinking Avid/Hope myself for a while, I'm now planning on Formula Oro Puro as my front brake upgrade later this year.

From what people say, Formula Oro really do make the very best brakes available. œ180+ for just a front brake though.
