XT Rear Mech sloppy!
Hi my XT rear mech is playing up, no matter how hard i try to get th em indexing i am still having trouble. They shift up to low gear (big cog) fine but when i change down (towards little cog)nothing happens. when i change down again it skips two cogs. I am at a loss, is it the shifter? (deore - very basic) would trying a brand new cable help? I do keep everything lubed up including the cable where it goes into the housing. any help apppreciated thanks...failing that a visit to my LBS

I'd try fresh cables first. Then lbs.

Is the rear mech bent?
I`m having the same problem. I put new cables on but still suffering. Mine is because the mech has taken a couple of knocks..i`m putting up with it for now til it really gets me down and then i`ll fork out for a new one.0 -

I had a bad smash on it a while back and it bent the hanger, i have replaced that...but the cage appears a little bent! Is that my problem? If so then i dont mind forking out for a new rear mech0

i think i will try a new cable first, unless anyone else is pretty sure its the bent cage on the mech0

I am tempted to bin the XT and get SRAM x9 mech with an x7 shifter...what do you guys think! I was with 2 mates yesterday...one had XT the other SRAM x9...who had the problems shifting? Yep me and the guy with the XT.0

My xt has been flawless, even when the entire bike was pretty solid with mud. Try the flying snakes, they should bake a huge difference assuming the mech isn't borked

I had trouble with an old XTR mech and eventually I tracked it down to the spring loaded knuckle near the attachement screw (the angle of dangle joint). This had worn so there was play and repacing the mech solved it. How old is your mech? Try to wobble it at this joint and check there's no more than minimal play.
