Rampage / Nevegal

I've ridden an OE wire beaded nevegal, and can say that it's ok, although it really does clog up horribly in mud and clears very slowly. However, it is a very confidence inspiring tyre.

I'll second what Kestrel says about the Nevegal, they are especially good on steep rocky climbs. I missed them when I went off road with another tyre! Only problem for me were that they are very hard work on the roads. But I'm guessing you don't need them for that.

(but man, are they heavy as an OE version @ 900g each)

ill be getting the folding which is 720g
not bothered in the slightest with on road performance, i will be riding to work on them sometimes but i couldnt care less how they perform on the road, its in the middle of the forest on wet tree roots that im bothered about

I've ususally got a Nevegal on the rear of my hardtail and I'm running Cinders on the susser. Not tried the Rampage but I like the Nevegal compared to the Cinder.

I'll expand on what I've said. In general, the tyres although clag easily in mud and are very slow to clear (and drag like hell when muddy). However, I do find they grip reasonably well in the mud, although they slip a little while cornering. I run them at 40PSI, and although I'm a 60kg lightweight, I've never pinch flatted them, although I have had A LOT of thorn punctures.
They seem alright in what few rocky sections I've done. I don't think about them while cycling, which is surely a good thing! The only time I do notice them is on the uphills or roads, when they can be fairly draggy.
For reference I'm running a Nevegal/Bluegroove combo, so cant' really differentiate between them.

I`ve used rampages & 2.1 nevegal/blue groove combo. I reckon the rampages roll faster & are lighter. Rampage all the way !

are you sure they were 900g each, that would be 3.96 lbs!
I am also in need of a new tyre though as I bought Panaracer Cinders 7-8 Rides ago, and in that, i have had about 4 pinch Flats, and to top it off, i found 4, rips in the sidewall, 1 of them fairly sizeable

Absolutely positive that mine weigh 900g each (well, technically 880g). Using the kitchen scales accurate to +- 1g!
There's a reason I'm gonna buy a pair of Nobby Nics or Speedkings @ 500g each!

I'm surprised you thought they were lighter as a folding 2.1 Nevegal is only 610g.

Gibby, did you get the kevlar or wire Cinders and what pressures do you run. Cinders are not a puncture prone tyre! and the kevlars have reinforced sidewalls

Nevegals are good tyres, unless its muddy or you are on the road as others say. They have flimsier sidewalls than panaracers unfortunately. 2.5 stick-e are awesome on the downs.0

might get the Panaracers then, they have the sidewall protection IIRC
