Hi i'm currently using Ubuntu Linux after being fed up of the same old crashes on windows.
However i cannot seem to be able to share my internet connection with other computers as I get an eth1 not ready message.
Anyway I realise this is a mountain bike forum so I'm not asking about how to solve this but does anybody have any links to a good guide on how to do this, for a complete beginner. I have tried google but it seems I may need a degree in order to understand any of it.
Any help at all is appriciated.

when you installed it, was there an option to use as an internet gateway or something? seem to remember there was an option with redhat and with suse. infact, i used to use an old pc as a hardware firewall at one point before i had a router and wireless rig.

Chris, Linux is (less so these days, it has to be said) picky about which networking hardware it can use. If you have a wired network, for about œ10 you can pick up a decent D-Link or 3-Com network card. For wireless... you're on your own, sorry!0

I'm tryping this from Firefox in Linux that I installed yesterday...
Installing and setting up Ubuntu is a piece of piss but sharing a network connection may be trickier than the usual web browsing/sending email... You may need to investigate Samba - I think that's the windows compatible network sharing type thing.

Thanks for the replies.
Decided not to use the linux machine as the 'router' as it were. As it will now be used on the network as a online shopping machine as it is safer than windows.
