Any experiance of this or review links etc , considering buying one new from halfords for 650

Was reviewed recently in in WMB, got a 6. Well specced, true four bar linkage, but its more a budget DH/FR rig than trail bike. Its very heavy.

well i was looking for an upgrade to my raw 2 and was set on a full sus (tempted by the kona shred though) and this seems the best for buck

Yeah, it quite heavy, but fine for that use underlined.

You could also ask about ordering other Konas in that price range, but you won't get hydraulic brakes at that price, i wouldn't have thought.

You could also look around for some of last years kona's kikapus, giants (i think it is the NRS, though that might be the high end one! :S) and GT's i-drives, though the latter in halfords nudges œ900.

If there are any left, they would be good alternatives, IMO. Just from what i've tried.

Find the colour, sight and sound, a new exposure brings you round.

i dont expect i would get A better one for œ650 but havnt really looked around, any1 now any as well equepped for around that price , also my friend has also taken to it after i showed them and they were previously looking at kona shreds for œ600 , is the carrera a better all round bike in your opinions.

As I suggested, it is completely down to what you want to use it for.

Bikes can be better than one another, but if you need a road bike and buy a full sus DH rig, its going to be near useless, isn't it.

The shred is a completely different kettle of fish, being a very well framed dirt jump bike, with cheaper replaceable parts. Thats great if you need that.

As previously explained, the Banshee is a FR rig, pretty much, which is much heavier, but can obviously cope with the rigours of that discipline better (i.e. climbing with all you gears, as the Kona has limited amounts, travelling faster over rough ground etc).


The Banshee is well specced, and has hydraulics which, IMO, are essential over V's. Cable discs rarely cut it.

I would also consider what riding you actually do with it. If its simply trails, then for all the looks of a full sus, you may not actually need that if you are on a budget. You could get, say, a Carerra Fury for less money than the banshee, with very similar spec. It will also be much, much lighter than any of the others mentioned.

Value is subjective. You don't always need the most bang for your buck in other words. You need the right bang for your buck.

just bought my 13 year old son a banshhe x not nearly as heavy as i expected he handles it on trails and over big jumps with ease. all in all a very good value bike i think .banshee x
