Having just received my nice new rock lobster 853, i was wondering if i need to treat it with anything inside the tubes to keep the evil rust at bay? or will it have already been treated with something. If i do, what do i need to get?
Cheers

I bought some Waxoyl in an aerosol can from Halfords and swished it around inside my frame. Don't know if it does a lot but worth a go for 4 quid.

I sprayed white lightning inside my pompino (despite what others on this forum said at the time - hehe), as it's very waxy.
After quite a few months, it still hasn't shifted and I have no rust.

For whats its worth.....I have had my Dekerf SL (853) for 10 years. I have done at least 30,000 miles on it, I have never treated the inside of the frame and I can tell you that all the areas where you can visually inspect: seat tune, BB, head tube there is no rust. Still going as well as the day she was bought. So stop worrying and get out while the sun is shinning.0

just get an alloy frame in stead!
BTW i have a townsend colorado in the shed and its about 15 years old, rapid fire shifters, silly curly handle bars cantileaver brakes and guess what? no rust! inside the frame or outside the frame! plenty of dust tho. hehe

Waxoyl or similar certainly won't do any harm. As to whether or not your frame will rust? Depends. Get water inside it regularly and it will. Don't get water inside it and it won't.
Had a steel roadie frame in my teens - used to rattle when you shook it due to the rust in the top and down tubes after a few years use and abuse in all weathers.
Shall be spraying my red Inbred frame before building it up, basically 'cos I already have the wax spray and it's a five minute job.

No it isn't, aluminium is an element, bikes are not made from aluminium, but an alloy of said element. Steel is an alloy of the elements iron with a bit of carbon and/or other gubbins.

My Marin Bear Valley frame is 15 years old and still has no rust. Just the odd spray of GT85 inside when I remember and just check that you keep the small drain holes in the frame open so water comes out and the frame dries inside. Good frames are primered inside during manufacture. This frame was used daily for 2 years to cross a ford on the way to work so has seen plenty of water

An old fashioned method is to coat the inside of your frame with linseed oil. I went for this method as my Inbred lives near a radiator and Waxoyl would melt. The oil seems to have dried up and left a protective layer.
Alternatively there is a product called "FrameSaver" which is specifically designed for the job.0
