Hi All
Looking for some of your ever useful advice again please :-)
Story goes, My mate was in the good old USA last month & picked me up a nice pair of Ritchey wcs Carbon Bars, So far so good, & i have just bough a nice new Thomson 4X stem! now my dilema begins...
My parents are off the good old USA next month and i was going to get them to pick me up a thomson seatpost, BUT... ive just read the mini review for the Ritchey WCS Carbon post in this months MBR...
So my question is... shall i spend the extra few $ on the carbon? or shall i stick with what you all say is best, Thomson??
Important factor's... On a stumpy HT, Im a heavy guy, general XC use!
Any help most appreciated! Cheers guys![:)]

It depends, how much does carbon shards up your ar*e scare you? Also, although it will almost certainly be fine, if something does go wrong, USA will be a pain to RTM. At least with a thomson you'll almost certainly write off you saddle first, as someone on here has done recently!

Hi, what did you opt for in the end?

According to Thomson, in the even of a crash this is supposed to happen:
"Impact absorbing clamps - clamps, head, and assembly will spread and flex on impact to protect seat, rails, seatpost and rider."
They are good seatposts, but not the best. You can get similar for half its price in the form of the SMICA, and Ti posts that are lighter.

i have to slightly come against sonic here.
having been through 3 RF seatposts i have recommend the Thomson, i have been unable to break it yet... that for me is something...
IMO they are the best seatpost for their intended purpose, there are lighter but these are weaker IMO. i recommend the thomson for pimp value plus actually doing it's intended purpose well..

Oh, I am not saying they are bad, just double the price of ones just as well made and designed. If I had 60-70 quid for a seatpost, I'd get a Ti one.

Thomson seat post for me, I have a Thomson Elite layback and think it is escellent. Have had Easton EA70, Thomson carbon (cant remember which one) and Ritchey in the past and much prefer the Thomson.

Dave, If I go for the Thomson it'll be the layback. The only thing putting me off was that it didn't look like i'd be able to get a flat saddle once fitted. I assume you can?

yer it's no problem plus the chucks are reversible too, if you can't do it in the normal way you can swap the chucks around and get an extra 10 degrees of adjustment
so for example normal does
-5 to 20
wider range does 5 to 30.

Hi
Yeah, shouldnt be a problem. It is very adjustable and actually very easy to set up compared to some 'cheaper' brands
