Silly question, but never done 48 miles, most I have done was 22 miles around Llandegla going round a couple of times, how much harder is 48?
Is the route particularly hilly or technical with drops off's?

Its not particularly hilly but has some great singletrack. Its an event that you can do in your own time. there are several feed stations around the course and a support vehicle, so you are looked after.

Does the shorter route and longer route follow the same course, if we choose to do the longer route is there an easy route back if it is too much?
Can't decide whether to give the 50 mile route a go or not as I'll be with my son, I guess we would be looking at just over 7 hours of riding on the long course if it was similar to llandegla?

yep, they both follow roughly the same route and there are cut off points along most of the route. With it being around the Cyffilliog forest you can take any number of the fire roads which will return you to the village. Speak to us on the day as we will be doing the signing on. We can show you on the map and suggest some alternate routes should you wish to cut the ride short.

Just got back, me and my son did the 25 mile route (2 hr's 40 min) and I'm absolutely knackered, went a bit wrong at the end and did an extra 1/2 mile!
The weather was great - maybe a bit too hot, was praying for some rain towards the end.
Never been anywhere other than Llandegla so it was a bit different, some of the narrow bits were a bit hard, kept clipping the pedals on the side and having to stop, but those fast descents were fun!!!!!
Christian did really well, did get a bit too hot on some of the long climbs, but he kept stuck in. Glad we didn't do the 50 mile - we are not up to that just yet, maybe next year........
We are planning on doing the fire race at Llandegla next weekend, we got the red run down to 1hr 10min last week, then went back up with his brother to do the blue (that was easy compared to today!)

Cheers for the comments!
It was very hot, only one incident involving a chap suffering from heat exhaustion... oh and we were in the wrong field! but that was a mistake by the locals. It was a pain to get a transit van in and out of the entrance tho...
On a good note we have raised over 1500.00 for charity.
Some will be going to the Cyffilliog show comittee as its the locals who do the marshalling and man one of the feed stations and let us use the field.
Some will be going to the Kona bikes for africa scheme, and some to a local hospice (undecided which one yet though)....
On a bad note it may well be the last event.(this year was the 10th event!)
there are only 3 of us in the club who organise this event, which given the planning and logistics takes a huge drain on our time and energy.
Unless we can find some more helpers in the run up to the event to help mark out the route and help with the organisation then this may well be the last one, which is a shame....
