When I was in my local bike shop recently having my brake pads replaced, the guys used an aerosol of some kind to degrease the brake calipers and rotors. I'm racking my brain to remember what it was. Any ideas? It was a yellow aerosol can!

I have some bike doctor stuff, white and green can. Most brands will have the same result as each other. Make them squeel like a stuck pig though!

I actually want the degreaser for my chain and mechs, they are covered in gunge and I was getting a lot of chain-suck yesterday. My crank kept jamming solid and the rear mech was bouncing up and down like a yo-yo. I've tried a hose and muck-off but there is still a grinding and clicking from the crank/pedals/chain/mechs! The guys in the shop used the stuff on the calipers and rotors when they swapped out the pads and I want to use it on the mech and chain to see if it makes any difference. Hopefully giving the whole lot a proper clean will help it all run much smoother!

As long as you re-grease the mech and chain that should be alright... Theres a really nasty strong cleaner like white spirit that works well on stripping crud of chains.

I have a degreaser from Ambersil. it works really well for chain rings/cassettes/etc.

i'm not sure what it would be like on discs and pads though

take your mech off, split it up ( Two screws in the cage, at the jockey wheels) and scrub easy enough. Split the chain and put in a jar of white spirits, shake it like ainsley harriet and scrub if needed. Et voile, make sure you grease up after
