Roch Shox totem warranty issues

I've just sent my Totem 2 step airs back to rock shox for the second time due to the forks selecting there travel at will from 80-180mm which isn't to useful.
question is how many chances should i give them before i ask for new forks?
and also the paint is still intact and not scratched, yet there is corrosion under the lacquer, do u think i can claim new lowers under warranty

Give it one last chance. As long as the warranty is still valid and you haven't been abusing the forks, RS should issue you with a new pair or new parts. But give the fork some time to settle after you have it back, it may need some time to get back on form.
In terms of lowers, I myself am not sure whether it counts as a valid claim, but if the earlier problem means a replacement fork, then it's your problem solved.

well theres no retail totems that are out of warranty yet, first year and all. had the same problem first time and according to the mechanic i spoke too they couldnt find anything wrong so stripped inspected and cleaned what was there and rebuilt. worked for about a week and gradually got worse.
if the same happens again im thinking of asking for solo airs if they offer replacement due you think theres any chance of them giving me a cheaper fork as warranty. i'd rather have a cheaper working fork than a more expensive one that doesnt work0 -
I'd push for a better fork due to all the hassle you have had, if it doesn't get fixed.

But this is at the discretion of the supplier. If RS want to repair, RS can repair.
I'd hav emboldened the 'within a reaonable time' in the first point.

RS aren't fiddling with the forks for 08, concentrating their efforts on a new rear shock line instead.
Sounds like you've just got a dodgy set of totems to be honest. You've paid enough money, demand that Fisher service you!

They do not HAVE to replace them. They do have to repair them though. Which they will probably continue to do...

But he's still within his rights to demand an alternative to repair if repair isn't fixing the problem.

Depends on company policy normaly its after four repairs. however by law they can repair it all they want. if it is the same problem he can go to trading standards but chances are rock shox will offer a replacement long before it gets to this stage.
Demanding things will get you no where. Asking what your alternatives are, probably will

The 2 Steps are having loads of problems it seems, always the same thing, travel sticking down.
The Solo Airs/Coils by all accounts have been pretty reliable. I know after 8 or so months mine are still running faultlessly. Hell I may even treat them to a service before we go to France [:)]
I have heard of RS swapping 2 Steps for either/or of the others available. Might be worth investigating?

The Lyrik 2-steps had problems with the negative air chamber sucking in air and reducing overall travel. RS should be happy to just swap them out, I believe that's what most other users got. Teething problems with a relatively new range.

there is actually a design flaw within the air/oil seperator piston...Rockshox has gone back to the drawing board on the 2-Step for 2008
in Canada and the States they are currently offering 2-Step owners the choice of the Solo Air or Coil fork as a replacement, as the 2-Step issue is not something that can be sorted during this season
however, there is a big backlog of customers waiting for this offer, and this is effecting European countries like Germany too..
the other issue affecting Totems is a creak developing in the crown / steerer area, usually after a couple of months of hard riding, this only seems to affect the 1.125" steerer version and not the 1.5" steerer version
I have just had the CSU (crown / steerer / upper legs) replaced on my Totem Coil under warranty...
...the warranty on all Rockshox fork products is actually 2 years and Fisher Outdoor Leisure are an efficient, professional company to deal with so no problems
go back to the dealer you bought your forks form and have them returned to Fishers [;)]
the Totem is definitely a great fork, but as many "first season" products, there are teething problems.
The issue is not that you get a problem with a new product, its how you are taken care of when it happens and I have no complaints in that respect, and no worries about continuing to use Totem [:D]
