Trashed LX Crankset

I've been running an LX crankset for a little over a year on my Trance.. Haven't done a huge mileage but noticed today on taking the whole thing apart for cleaning / servicing that the middle chainring is minced. There's a tooth missing and multiple other gouges out of the metal.. The outer ring also isn't clever, with a fair bit of wear.
Anyway, one of the reasons for the service was to troubleshoot a clicking noise, which I think may be BB related.
So, in light of this, I'm slightly reluctant to spend more cash for Shimano bits.
I hear middleburn make stronger stuff, anyone got experience of their chain rings as replacements for LX / whatever?
If I can't fettle the BB, is there a better alternative? Would a raceface or FSA external BB be compatible?
Any advice gladly received.
Cheers chaps
Jeff

Nah, FSA and RF BBs are generally gash, in my experience.
Nothing wrong with shimano rings either. Check your chain for wear/ lateral movement. If that's knackered, it'll slice up your rings, especially if not degreased, cleaned and lubed regularly.0 -
http://www.enduroforkseals.com/ for bearings. middleburn are good but costly. the deore rings are steel and will last longer. but a year is about right. dont forget some teeth are missshapen from the start to aid shifting.
personally i would replace like with like if they have lasted a year.

Teeth on chainrings are shaped to help shifting, and there are a few milled ramps also to aid shifting.
Mibbleburn are good if you want to bling it up, but good old Deore are superb value for money if you don't care about the bling.
