Well this is my first post TBH, now i'm wanting to get fitter.
Now i've always enjoyed mountain biking but i've not done it for a while!!

Now i'm just a beginner with a small pot of gold for a bike, only œ300.

Now do I need a hardtail or full suspension???
It'll be mainly used for off road rides but it will also be used on the roads.

I'm wanting to use it 2 - 5 times a week, doing roughly 2 - 10 miles at a time.

Has anyone any sugestions?????

Cheers John

  • Hardtail without a doubt.

GT avalanche & Mongoose Tyax Elite are worth looking at/testing.

Thats a good bike but the wrong place to buy it. You`ll find a cheaper better service elsewhere

Guess the frame in my picture!!!
    ...the system......you can`t beat it.
  • i have to agree.
go for a hardrock, try for last years model with discs as it will be really cheap.
i had a hardrock and ended up upgrading everything but the frame and saddle
    good bikes for the money.

I am in the same boat and i have a few bikes that i am thinking about at the moment. I would recommend the following sites (for price and bikes don't know about service yet haven't bought anything)

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... 5360026979

    http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDeta ... egoryID=69

    http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.p ... m1b4s2p722

http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/index.html - (heard bad things about them but very good on price)

http://www.tredz.co.uk/index.aspx - Impressive site! Good bikes

Might of missed a few out, i have been looking into the œ300 MTB for about 2 weeks now so if you have any questions please ask.

I believe that i can get a good MTB with hydraulic disc brakes for œ325 but i am going to try and haggle down to the 300 mark.

If you want to talk about the bikes at that price or compare notes just ask. Hardtail all the way for me!!

So true, I have found Evans' service to be trash, at best.
