Same thing used to happen with my deraillieur when I used to jump my saracen, bout 13 yrs ago, went through 3 deraillieurs in about 6 months! Put me off mountain biking as I lost all faith in the bike!
Obviously i've now got more sense, and a better bike!Specialized Rockhopper '07

It's not the bikes fault.
It's the fault that the rear derailleur was setup incorrectly.

Took the words right out of my mouth.
That doesn't happen unless it's badly set-up. Simple as.0 -
thank for the advice and not being funny but it was straight and gently

So what?
If the stops were incorrectly set then the derailleur can go straight into the wheel even if it's "straight and gently"

Basically what they mean is, if you screwed your derailleur up, it was either set up wrong, the hanger was bent or you landed wrong. Simple as, just get on with it and try not to break anything else.
