Car "stance"

Right, the time has come to start throw more money at my car than is sensible/sane.

So I have a question for you lot, because I am fairly sure that you are a rather different bunch of people to those over at the Imp Owners Club....

Do I:

A) SCHALAM my car so that it's eating weeds and properly sitting on the deck, at the expense of some comfort/driveability

or

B) Give it a nice tidy hit with the lowering stick, resulting in better handling/comfort etc, but doesn't quite look AS cool.....?

I like this stance a lot however, and I feel might actually be a nice compromise

Uber low would look like this

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the cars not actually going to get driven much after the shows this summer because I won't be able to afford the insurance next year at uni

just a gentle hitting with the lowering stick so as to get the most out of the handleing.

  • Slammed is shocking.
Option B all the way. EDIT: slightly nose down stance FTW.

OR option C - Airbag suspension if you actually want to spend more money than is sane.

Going stupidly low is pointless, you'll have to drive at 0 miles an hour over every speed bump to ensure nothing scrapes. Not to mention loud clunking noises going over potholes and the inability to climb curbs if the need arises. Personally, I'd prefer a smaller amount of lowering - I've chosen only an inch for my car.

Cheers gang. Think you're probably right tbh. I've probably been spending too much time looking at weed eating VWs [:D]

I may also be looking into the possibility of having the front shock mounts raised, so that the car can be lowered without losing all of the suspension travel

In fact, all old VWs are awesome IMO, air or water-cooled.

Back to your question, for shows etc i think slam it, but for owt else just lower it as much as is practical for you. Cant you get some coilies made, or even air ride it so you have the choice? [:P]

    Negative camber FTW [:D]

Imps often run with neg camber on the front- either for looks or for "I can't be bothered to mod the stub axle" reasons! Helps turn in and handling, but encourages the car to "tram line" more and runches tyres quicker! Looks good though [:D]

I think you should go for the tasteful lowering. Although if i remember rightly from my Imp there is enough room to raise the front struts if you are going to slam it. Would probably need a brace though....

You can get coilovers, which I think I may well do now- Spax/avo/koni/Leda (if they ever get going again, anyone know anything? Apparently they've been bought or summat) adjustable platform jobs. Been looking around and I think I will at least get them for the front. If I'm really going to be a fanny I can just whack it down for shows etc.
Would love to bag it, but think that may be a little OTT!

My insurance this year- 18, male, no NCB, no claims, LS6 postcode. œ427 TPFT with limited milage (10,000 I think) and œ75 excess

    Engine size is 875cc

Next year it will go up for the claim and because engine size goes up to 915cc, alloy wheels and lowered suspension. But Dad's going to keep the car at home, hopefully drive it once a week or so. And I'll go on as a named driver so I can use it when I'm back for holidays etc
