Shin/knee protection

Hey all
Spent the weekend riding Dalby and Hamsterly and have come back with my legs looking more purple and blue than pink. I look a right mess. I wasn't doing anything more than the routes demanded and wearing clipless pedals but a few falls later and I look mashed. My skirt collection is resigned to the back of the cupboard for ever more.
As a result been considering knee/skin pads. However I only do xc (red/black trails standard) and am a bit concerned about them making me far to hot/tired/getting them in the way. Anyone else wear them for xc and do you have any suggestions of good spec. I'm about a 5'9" girl.
Cheers in advance

its hard to find padding that is good for XC because you want it super breathable. i use big 661 knee/shin combo pads, they're great for DH, but i'd never use them on XC. My girlfriend uses 661 veggie knee/shin pads. these are more manouverable and more breathable but i still wouldn't want to wear them on a 25k XC loop.

Have a look at Dainese knee/shins. Breathable, light and don't restrict movement.

Ive got a pair of the brand x knee and shin pads from chain reaction. Ive just done a week in scotland wearing them every day a bit sweaty but not too uncomforable. Once you get used to them you forget they are there, until you need them!

Brand X knee and Shin do get a tad hot and ya can look like darth vader at times but they are such good value for money, highly recommended and I guess for the cash ya can afford to take em when needed and leave em at home when not !!0

I've got a set of Dainese knee/shin guards I don't use any more!

I too have 661 4x4 knee/shin and 2x4 elbow/arm.
I've only found them too hot on a couple of rides and they were REALLY hot days.

I used to wear 661 Veggie shin pads for XC/AM (until I went clipless). I usually ride about 20-30 miles on an XC route (Dalby red/black), I found the veggies to be light, good protection (for XC/AM stuff) & not too hot.

Cheers guys
Think I'll end up looking at the veggies. They were what caught my eye once before. Now, to buy or not to buy before I head to Scotland this weekend!

I tend to just wear the 661 knee pads, as my legs were getting to hot wearing the knee and shin combo's

I've got 661 4x4's wore them for about a year and they're ok for XC, bit cricket pad like though.
But I find my 661 Racelites are cooler as they're open at the back, tend to ride down as I pedal though, have to remember to pull them back up before hitting the quicker parts of the trail.
