Right, hello all.

Over the last 18month, my bikes just covered 3,000 miles, without any change of the drivetrain. Im writeing this so people can see how durable this middle price componets are, any questions, then please just ask.

Spec:

Shimano Deore rear mech

Shimano Deore front mech
http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/catalog/cyc ... 2759220124
SRam PC-58 chain

SRam MRX comp F&R shifters
http://www.sram.com/en/srammountain/com ... hifter.php
Suntour 8 speed cassette 28/11
Shimano Deore rear hub
http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/catalog/cyc ... 2759315280
Shimino UN53 BB
Clarks teflon coated cables.
RPM cranks, 22/32/44

This setup cost me about œ140 - œ160 I think, cant remember exactly how much. The bike has been used for lots of roads use, even during the winter and also it has done alot of XC.

The bike at the minute, does 110 miles a week when the weather is good, I bike to college which is 17 miles away, i itas raining hard, then I take the car [:D] lol.

Everything on the bike has been really good, suppose the only main fault would be the shifters. They have never really been that smooth, I know they are not anything special. Theyhave done the job but I woul not be using them again.

The front and rear mechs have been brill, then rear mech is scracthed a bit now..etc from general off-road use. Ive done very little tuning to th gears, just very small adjustments over time from the shifters. The chain and been brill and cleaned about every 500 miles, taken off, de-greased and re oiledafter being fitted.

The BB has been perfect, not done anything to it at all, just kept the area pretty clean. The rear hub has been the same, deore hub has been just fine, the cones came loose about 100 miles or so from new, but that has been it.

Cables have been super fine too.

Im just starting to stip the bike down and replace parts before anything goes one day when im out. The cables look almost new, no rust or anything on them, teflon + stainless steel must do its job!

Overall, this setup has been great, ive just got on the bike and gone, never had to do anything major. I did a 140 mile bike ride a few weeks ago with it, about 1/3 off-road and never skipped a beat, even on the bif uphills!

I hope this has been some help to anyone who is looking at a cheap setup that lasts. [:)]

  • yes indeed well done. but youve only included a few factors so it rather general and not much of a comparison. but then if u get too specific it wont be of much use to most people generally what im surmising is thank you, but you seem to of wasted an awful lot of time writing that

awesome, thanx for the info. i have the same front and rear mechs. it's good to know these components can handle this sort of mileage. also, i don;t think you've wasted your time providing the community with this info.

Ok, thats some people, and sorry other people, I would have put it in html and made it shorter, but the fourms always not allowed html scrips.

It did not take to long, was waiting in for a package anyways for the saxo.
