Lights

I want to get a set of front lights for off-road night riding, and thought that if I get them now I'll probably get them a tad cheaper what with it being summer (I could be wrong about that). What sort of power of lights is the minimum I'd need for xc riding? And presumably it's better to have one 10w lamp than 2 5w lamps?
Any recommendations would be much appreciated

I would say a minimum of 10w halogen, and even that may not be enough. What sort of budget are we looking at?
And hows the bike?!

Hi supersonic yeah It's pretty good thanks. Slight annoyance with the tubeless tyres: I got a puncture in both on the same ride, patched them up, but couldn't get the damn things to seal again even with CO2 canisters etc. Tubes in them now. Only other qualm is that it gets quite uncomfortable on longish rides, especially back/neck.
Anyway as for the lights I would say an absolute max of œ100 but would like to pay less if I can get away with it, will prob look out for second hand offers.
I'll keep 10w+ in mind then...are there other types than halogen that would be better (or worse)?
btw Did you manage to sell the bits left over from your BeOne??0 -
Sold most the bits, still trying to sell the frame!
Take a look at the BLT Radium:

For 100 notes has some good features, a decent battery and charger, fairly light, and good run times (plus have choice of running different bulbs). Well made too.

Seems a deal on the face of it, but you will have no warranty. Also got to be careful that the battery hasn't been damaged. No idea of its weight!

the seller soes something like 800g but the website says over 1000... i think that'll be a noticeable difference to 450g of the one you mentioned considering the bike weighs zero at the moment0

lumicycle. http://www.lumicycle.com/pages/default.aspx
I use a
1x20 watt flood
1x12 watt spot
And lithium Ion battery.
Run time up to 3 hours or so.
Fantastic visibilty - inspires confidence
Costs a couple of hundred quid, but mine is in its 4th year - and gets used (and abused) regularly.0
