Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 DTT2200, surround sound

I've seen a set of these on ebay for œ15.00, second hand. Would these be a good set for just have in my bedroom to connect to the ps2? Also does the PS2 produce sound in surround sound? Also could someone recomend me a 5.1 sound card?

Check what outputs your perticular PS2 has? Better stil get us a picture? I know one model had optical out which when used with an AV reciever or amp can give surround sound, If there are only L and R outputs you may struggle. Im not sure how suitable those speakers would be.

The PS2 has got the socket on the left of this picture: http://tinyurl.com/2oa33x (The optical out) The outher output is the Red, right audio, white, the left audio, and yellow, is the video, these then go into a scart converter.
This is the surround sound system: http://tinyurl.com/2kz2s4, The quality doesn't have to be brilliant as its only going to be in my bed room.

I see, Yeh the digital outputs in your first pic are the only way you will get surround out of the ps2, I dont think the speakers your looking at have digital audio input, Thats the problem,
You could try find similar speakers with digital in or buy a seperate amp with it and some speakers to plug into that.

I've emailed the seller and asked for a close up pic of the rear connections. Ok, this is probably going to be my last question, could you recomend me a goodish and cheapish 5.1 sound card for my pc as I somethimes watch movies on it and it would be good to have the surround sound as well.

If you would be pluging it into your computer anyway you would probably be able to use digital in on the pc and it would output to the speakers using the soundcard, Il look at cards now.
Edit: Something like this with the optical input should work.

Hey John, thanks for finding that, I was just wondering how would I wire the speakers up then? as I can only see 4 outputs on the card, and on the other connected card there are two optical sockets, which would I plug the PS2 into?

Hi, 2 of the speakers have 5 metre cables. The other 3 have 3 metre cables. These are approximate measurements.
The connections, from the left are...
DC IN
FRONT + REAR LEFT (white)
FRONT + REAR RIGHT (red)
CENTRE (black)
AUDIO INPUT FRONT (pale green)
AUDIO INPUT REAR (black)
AUDIO INPUT CENTRE SUBWOOFER (orange)
VOLUME CONTROL SOCKET
BASS VOLUME KNOB

Its a 5.1 card to go with those 5.1 speakers,
One output would be front left+right
One would be rear left+right
And one would be Centre and sub
Then the remaining one will be your mic in,
Your optical out on your PS2 would then need to be connected to the optical in on the soundcard, Then it would output through the speakers.
Im pretty sure it would be this cable (there may be a cheaper one) but check when you get the soundcard what the socket looks like.
Edit: Thats similar to mine, All will become clear when youve had a look at instructions etc..

Bloody hell, that cable is more expensive than the card itself. Also does running the PS2 throught the sound card mean that I have to have the PC going?

Yeh the computer will have to be on, There may be cheaper cables, maybe off Ebay, That was just to demonstrate the cable you will probably need.

but it is!
PS2 games do NOT have 5.1 soundtracks. The box will not magically create a 5.1 sound track.

I also thought that you could as I looked at the back of a PS2 game and it said dolby digital.
