I'd like to know that too. Went to Hamsterley Forest today for the first time, that was good. Chopwell Woods (think thats what they're called - in this months MBUK) are supposed to be good but I havent been yet. Apart from those two, i'm on the look out for places too.0

Where about are you thinking? Not far from Middlesbrough you have Great Ayton and Gisborough. Its not to bad round there. You can even head up lord stones caf‚ way if you like. A good one is start in Great Ayton by the bike shop. Go up to Captain Cooks Monument. Across the top to Gisborough woods. Then up or round Roseberry Topping depending how your feeling. Then down through the old quarry back in to Great Ayton. Then stop in a caf‚ or a pub.0

Snapper, how far is that ride starting in Great Ayton? Whats it like (i.e. beginner, intermediate, advanced, killer)?0
-
Its hard to say. The people I ride with a extremely fit. One raced triathlon for England. Ones one of the best jr cyclists in the uk. Ones spent years being a full time cycle guide over in France and that sort of thing. Where in comparison I am extremely unfit. But you can taller the ride as they geography always allows a easy way out.0
-
so they're a little bit fit then! is the ride a signposted one? as i don't know the area very well but it sounds like a ride i'd like to try.0
-
Hmm, its not signed as a ride but all the tracks are. If you had a map it would be no real problem. If your not fit (i dont want to look bad lol) and its a nice day you could always join some of us. Its the advantage or forking in a bike shop, there is always some one up for a ride lol.0

aye could do one day, only been out two times as recently got back into biking so not too fit!0

near bishop auckland, so hamsterly is nice and handy for me. you'll have to let me know if you find any decent places.0

Get the Beyond Hamsterley http://www.beyond-hamsterley.co.uk/ guide for some suggestions of rides in County Durham. They are really good routes and as you get to know the area your'll come up with your alternatives. I suggest however that you do the Blanchland route the other way round to what the folder suggests. It flows better.

The Beyond Hamsterley guide looks excellent. Might have to purchase that one after pay day (this biking lark is costing me a fortune!)0

Theres a cool (if not short ish) local loop near you.
Drop down on the south side of the Wear and cycle up to Lambton garden centre, then double back towards Pennywell on the old railway line that runs past Cox Green.
Jasit looks a bit steep to me.....0 -
Dan, I'm from near Bishop Auckland as well and just getting back into biking (hoping to pick up a bike in the next 2 weeks), so if you fancy an unfit riding buddy let me know!0
-
Crispy, yeah cool, feel free to join us. Where about near Bishop?
We usually, go up to Hamsterley, or sometimes do the cycle path loop from bish, round to willington then page bank, back through Binchester.0 -
I'm in Hunwick so either Hamsterley or the loop you mentioned are good for me!
Are you on MSN? if so PM me your addy and I'll add you so I can contact you once I have the bike (should be about 2 weeks)0 -
Dont have msn.
I only work at Parkside school, so not far from you at all.
Is there any other way of sending you an email through this? My I.T skills need a fair bit of improvement!0 -
I've sent you a PM with my mail address.
