Just in at halfords. MTB's ranging from œ599 to œ999, hybrids and roadies too.
They've got really good specs for the money, the pro model MTB at œ999.99 has X.0 rear mech, X.9 front mech, X.9 shifters, RS forks (not sure which but have loads of adsjustments) Juicy 7's, the bikes are built up with richey kit which looks and feels good and they're really light. They're great top spec trail HT's for under a grand!
Theres also an MTB at œ750 with juicy 5's, X.9 gearing etc, all have hollowtech truvativ system cranks and fancy square to round tubing.
There exclusive to halfords and only a hundred stores stock them at the moment.
Anyway if you after a well speced MTB for some trail thrashing there definatly worth a look [8D]

Sounds nice! But if it's from halfords, then...... I probably wouldn't, it'd probably fall apart?

Build it yourself then rather than let them do it

How the feck have they got an X.0 mech in under a grand? Got to me some significant cuts elsewhere to fit that in...0

The spec might well be really good for the money, but you can almost guarantee the support will be dire.

Weight isn't an issue with a track bike - no hills to climb (unless you like riding up and down the banking). I had a set of early Campagnolo disk wheels, which weighted aa absolute ton, but once you got it moving, the centrafuegal (Sp?) force kept it going!

It would be common misconception, not only on MTB forums, but Roadie ones as well, especially by those who haven't "ridden the boards"

I've also been told that Halfords are getting Dales in?
I'll have to give my old store a call and find out tomorrow.

Halfords can get anything in if you want them to.0
-
mmmm not sure about dales but we are getting voodoos in and the 9 chris boardman bikes are only the first wave of his range....and ur wondering how the new bikes are so cheap well heres the reason....halfords are trying to take on independants we all no that so they need a range of bikes to take on the cannondales and the treks well here they are but they are there to put the independants out of bisness not so much to make money halfords make there moeny of the corr blimey apollos and shockwaves. Therefore they can give them such a good new spec and not worry about making money off them!! oh and halfords can get in look bianch and fort yes the good old track bike make so if ur after one halfords can get them in!!!0

right, saw my mates boardman comp, the frame was uber big for him at around 5ft 8" and a 20" frame. also the frame seemed reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally long conpared to my msisle. the overall spec was fantastistic for the money - he paid œ540 for his. Things i would change are the shifters and the seat at first. The ride seemed smooth and the bike was fairly light aswell, the rockshox recons offered the usual R/S plushness.
one thing to note the is that halford monkey who put it together obviously didn't know how to preload headset bearings.
