I bet that is well within the 'affordable' market...

  • Kind of defeats the point of a diesel, which is fuel ecconomy.

If you can afford that, you won't really care about the MPG.

The torque is a plus though!

how is 71mpg at 56mph not economic on fuel man?!
I'm guessing it would return (if that's an accurate figure) a pretty decent figure at motorway speeds.

I think his point is more if you have 75 grand to spend on a car, you wouldn't care about mpg, so there is no point in it being so economical.

  • fizik is right.

Supercars aren't about fuel economy. They are about excess and speed. If a supercar becomes attainable to 'normal' people, it's no longer a supercar, it's just a car.

I can't see a 6.6 litre V8 engine returning 70 odd to the gallon no matter what the thing weighs in at, have to see it to beleive i spose. IF it can that's pretty amazing. But look at the Audi A8 TDI 4.2 V8, that can just about get 40mpg on a long run, (as proved by Clarkson on the London to Scotland and back to London again challenge).
And supercars are about noise as well and not caring about mpg, and i've yet to meet a petrol head who enjoys the sound of a derv, but a v8 derv= Oooh, badass noises.

I thought about it from this point of view.
The fuel reserves won't last forever. The More you can get out of a single tank, the better. Its just going to prove that you don't need to drink a gallon every 6 miles to get a quick car.
Also, not every rich person is frugal with money.

There's more to getting a good fuel economy then just money, for exapmle less minging emissions is always a winner.
