Hi,
Stupid question:
I have a hope big 'un front hub with 180mm rotor attached and the forks it will be going on are some Marzocchi Drop Off IV's with 20mm bolt thru axle. My question is can i use any disk with this rotor or must i use Hope. Also, the forks haven't arrived yet so i'm unsure about which type of disk mount they have, any idea???
Thanks [:p]

for the big-un you have to use a big-un disc.
forks should be IS. what year are they?

dunno, just bought them off ebay, they're 100mm and probably just an oem model so i've been having trouble finding info. shame about the hope disk though, dunno if the wallet can quite handle that.

not any more, and for some reason imageshack won't let me upload their picture. Strange. Anyway, if it helps they appear to have chrome coloured stanctions and normal drop off graphics. Also, is their no way a normal caliper would work with the hope disk? surely they're all mech of a muchness size-wise?

dunno where 'mech' came from??? I mean the dimensions of the disk by the way

err i said that you have to use a Hope big-un rotor with a hope big-un hub. i never said anything about calipers.
just link to the Ebay picture. sounds like you have bought a dirt jumper not a drop off.

if that works, the auction ended a few days ago. As for the brake thing, sorry, i thought i said i had the rotor attached

They look like dirt jam pros..... but with 20mm[?] I've seen 100mm drop off 4's on Kona's before though (came standard). Proper drop off 4's are on the '06 Norco Sasquatch.

ok so you will need a caliper to work with the 180mm disc you have fitted. (are you sure it is 180mm or is it 185mm?
the caliper fitting is the IS 20mm that marz do. where the caliper mounting face is 5mm further away from the rotoe than IS. so if you have a direct mount caliper you will need to 5mm spacers. if you get a post mount caliper you will need a IS 20mm abaptor.

I think they must just be off a kona then, can you see why i'm having problems finding info then.
So i could use an LX caliper with the disk i have? Sorry to be a noob (wasn't 7 years ago if that helps, its just been a while since i rode)
and since we're showing off bikes now....

sorry, just read your last post, my bad

just measured the rotor again, 185mm, i'll have to look for an adaptor i suppose. Could you recommend a brake (front only) for somewhere below the œ100 mark?
Old bikes have more soul!!!0 -
ok for a 185mm disc you will need either a direct mount caliper eg a hope number 3 caliper or any post mount caliper and a 185mm adaptor. but most of the 185mm adaptors will require the use of a 5mm spacer between the caliper and the adaptor. the hope number 3 caliper will also require the 2 spacers.
for simplisity i would get an avid front brake for a 185mm disc.
