Both are excellent bikes, try them both and see which you prefer the feel of.
I myself have the Marin Hawkhill and absolutely adore it. Sexiest looking hardtail frame ive ever seen, plus it handles like a dream even if you throw it around alot. Only downside is that the Hayes Sole discs suck big time. I ended up replacing mine with some Juicy 3s w/goodridge hoses.___________________________________________________________

Well no they arent that bad, certainly not bad to start off with thats for sure. Just i like my stopping power to be very sharp and efficient thats why i changed them.___________________________________________________________

My only reservations are the forks, but they will do (at least for this month!! - Any recommendations for a replacement?)0

Forks are pretty dire on the hawkhill compared to the alternatives (Toras etc). A Tora or MX Pro would be a good upgrade. Personally, if both fit, I would have gone for the hopper as I believe it to have a better frame, forks, brakes, and drivetrain! Well, disc version anyway ;-)

Too late, the Marin is in my garage as we speak.
Specialized are a bit too common for my liking anyway ;-)0 -
Hehe. See how you get on with the fork, but in my experience that ones is very bouncy.
