IIRC participants go to Le Boomerang and hands in their chains and get a GPS.
The GPS records distance, elevation change and speed. There is a prize for the person with the most in each catagory.
As it says on the tin there's no chains allowed.

If it happens whilst I'm out there I'm gonna do it.

Thats the answer I was looking for! I was sure there was more to it than 'just' a race.

IIRC Mike Deere works/ed there for a bit, could ask him to email some people?
