Orange Crush

I am just about to part with my hard earned cash for a rock hopper pro comp, but while reading this forum and bike mags, my eye has been drawn to the Orange Crush. I am getting back in to riding after a couple of years out, so it will be used for off road riding and trails. Is the Crush for more advanced riding? Would I be better off with the RH?
Thanks

For what type of riding?
The fact that you were going to be buying a Rockhopper, I'm assuming you ride XC.
The orange crush is very much aimed towards all mountain, and a bit more on the freeride side of things, while the Rockhopper is XC.

It would be xc riding that I do. But I am wanting to improve my skills for All Mountain. Is the RH a better starter bike for me?0

If you can afford the Orange crush then i would go for it. It is a much better spec.

If you can afford the Orange Crush, then I would get it, but to be honest, if its just XC you're going to be doing, the Orange Crush's forks would be unsuitable for it. You'd want forks with lockout.

Thanks BTR, was just trying to find out if the Crush forks had a lock out. Where I live the trails are a few miles away, so need to do road riding to get to them, I think I would need lock outs for the ride. Shame the Crush doesn't have lock outs, looks like a top ride0

you don't necessarily need to have lock outs just for a couple of miles on road - just don't bounce around on them too much!0

The Crush is just a big XC bike really. It should be fine if you have the legs to winch it up the hills.

Is the Crush a heavy bike then?(can't find it's weight on the net), I am 5.11ft and have been looking at 17inch frames with the RH, but it looks like I will need a 19 inch frame with the Crush! Is this going to make it a big heavy bike to push up the hills?0

It aint going to be light
Z1s are made of lead, Evolve DH cranks, Deore hubs with whopping Kenda 2.3" tyres and Hussefelt finishing kit. I reckon its going to be about 33-35lbs.

Wow! didn't think it would be that heavy. That will take a bit to move it a round for freeriding as well as trails. Looking for somthing lighter so I can get better with my riding. The Crush stills looks so much better than the RH pro Comp
Your stumpjumper looks a pretty cool ride ddoogie!0 -
TBH, I would wholey recommend the Rhopper Pro over the Crush. Reba forks are more than capable at handling some fairly hefty knocks. Nothing like the Crush. But for the majority of UK trails you should be fine. The rest of the componentry is pretty swish as well.
Cheers for the comment [:D]. The headset exploded the other day in a mass of orange goop. Ordering a Chris King in the near future. Pimp daddy.

Crush rides really nice but I have just had to send mine back as the frame snapped at the disk mounts.
A friend who bought the same model has been plagued by problems.
I would buy the equivalent Norco, I think they are also better spec'd for the money (or they were in 2006).

I think I can't go wrong with the RH Pro. As always when your buying a bike you have a budget but you always want the next one up.
Thanks for the comments I'll let you know how I get on with the RH0 -
I wouldn't get a Norco if you're doing XC, they're heavy and are aimed towards freeride.
Although I'm having problems with them atm, Winstanleys are selling an 06 Saracen Zen 3 for œ650, which has quite a nice spec as is, and you could spend the extra tailoring it to your needs.
Other than that get the RH, can't really go wrong with spesh.

Sometimes it overheats. You have to make sure it's in a ventilated place all the time.
