Hi,
Completely new to mountain biking and was looking for something that i can can use mainly on the street but then occasionally on bike tracks or country roads.
Thinking about getting this asit has lockout on the front suspension which i thought would be good for using it for streets:

It gets a really bad commuter rating here so was thinking maybe its not the best for riding on streets? I like the idea of locking suspension. Would do you all think?
thanks

Kinda ignore the ratings thingy, it's only a guide.
For that money I would get the Mongoose Tyax Elite, it has a much better fork, even though it doesn't have a lockout, I say this because the fork on the Scott is undamped and will be like a pogo stick off road, whereas the 'Goose will handle much better and the front end will track the trails much better.
Go test both bike & see what you think.

Thanks for the reply.
If i'm not going for lockout then i might go for a lower price. What do you think of this one

I too am new to mountain biking and am a very happy owner of a 07 Scott Reflex 50.
After changing jobs i had only 4 miles to travel to work so i thought i'd cycle, i think the Scott is fine for commuting. I ride about 1 mile on roads and 3 on a cycle track, most of it is quite smooth but there are bits of it that resemble a moguled ski run (typical council contractors workmanship!) and i think the forks handle them well, overall i find the Scott very comfortable and manoeuverable, if you don't need a bike to go belting down mountains with then go test one........before everyone else here recomends a rockhopper!0
