Hi, I just bought a bike from ebay to start riding again after a 7 year break, funny thing is i know what it is but can't figure out the age, any idea's folks? I know its an LTS DH (always wanted one) but its the year that puzzles me, it doesn't look quite right.

Its got the dual sport frame design, and looking at the graphics I would say 97/98.

Hi, thanks for the help so far, the german site seems to have answered my question. 97 LTS DH full bike for œ255, reckon thats alright really.

Not bad at all! If all the suss bits still work correctly, the mount at the back had a habit of cracking on this model.
What forks are they, cant quite make them out?

they're bullet brothers zzyzx (junk) which i'm gonna bin in a month or so, might service them first though just in case. 20mm bolt thru axle, hope front hub on a d521 ceramic on the front too. back wheels a bit of an unknown but apparently straight. its just gone in the post today so i'm all excited, been a long break and can't wait to ride again. Just couldn't resist its vintage charms. The guy i bought it off checked round for cracks and theres no sign of any so its just down to the bearings being ok....

Old bikes have more soul, that is true! Check my 96 Zaskar LE out lol.
If its in good nick, thats a bit of bargain. ZZYZY were pretty bad, lock up when cornering and gas bubbles in the damper! I used to ride my mates LTS 2000ds with DH kit on, was very good for the time.

its been a while and i just couldn't be arsed to learn to ride a hardtail smoothly again, last ride was a Giant ATX 890 with first gen bomber z1's......this was just as the freeride hardtail thing started to take off, none of this 'out of the box' stuff was around. My next mission is to find a Dirtworks Monster or Turner AfterBurner. More dreams....

Ah, my zaskar was a 'playbike' back then too, albeit with an Indy on it! I'm still looking for a cheap Xizang, but the new carbon Zaskar looks a bit tasty.

to be honest i'm completely out of touch with whats available and haven't seen the new GT's, i thought i heard that they had quality issues though? All of this bike malarkey (i love that word but can't spell it) kicked off cos a guy at work started banging on about the lovely cannondale he was buying and we started talking bike. He offered me a kona stuff for about œ400 but i wasn't really sure. then i saw my LTS.......bank hate me.

GTs are back in business after a couple of rocky years around 2000 when the owners went bust. 2008 range looks better than ever, with carbon fibre being brought back in.
If someone offered me that LTS for that money, I'd have bitten his arm off.

10 year old though, but a 'proper' dh bike (snigger). So from Oop north then? can you suggest any places to ride?

I live in Chapeltown, where Peaty was brought up, so some good riding around here! Try Wharncliffe: has a black route and 5 DH runs.

Wharncliffe!
Edit: damn too slow!
Dalby Forest is worth a look, 23 mile red route is getting good reviews & a black route & a DH run (soon to be finished)

Wharncliffe is just fantastic innit?! Got a new XC route too now, but I often just ride to the north over the crags and find my old way. Used to ride there in the early 90s before it even got famous, and the locals done a great job crafting the trails.

Yup, SingletrAction have done a great job as well as the other guys who helped create the trails.
Dalby's another of their projects.
Not done the crags ride yet, just had fun in the forest with Dax & co [:D] (riding bikes before you start lol!)

sh*t, thats a bit south for me (no car), will make a mental note though. was good to look into mbuk after so long and see Peat still doing well. (also good to see a lack of Jamie F*kin Hibbard)

Ha, hope to meet up with Dax soon and have a go on that new bike of is. Crag top ride is more XC, but very rocky with some sizable boulders: worth a go for somethiong different, only 2 or 3 miles and can link back into the black routes. I sent dax a map of it.

I'm back with an off-topic question...the LTS needs a fron brake and only has an unspecified disk mount, so i'm needing a front disk brake. Is the LX mechanical any good for just playing around and learning to ride again? Not looking to spend Hope money but don't just want to throw my precious pennies away on crud.
