Ok the summer is here, my exams are almost over and I have an entire gap year to ride [:D]

So since I have some spare cash I think its time to replace some of the bits on my bike.

The frame is an Identti Mr Hyde and I'm a do everything rider, XC, light freeride, a bit of DH, odd bit of jumping, etc..

Forks - Rock Shox Pike 426 U-Turn & Poploc 2007
Front wheel - Pro 2 with a '07 XM719 disk rim
Cranks - Saints, no brainer really never heard a bad word against them
Chain Guide - Blackspire Dew Lite Double Ring C4, I know nothing about chain guides as I've never used one but I here blackspire are a good brand

Looking for opinions, likely problems, better surgestions, my budgets about œ700

Good choices, although I would go for mavic EX721 rims if you can. Strong enough for DH and light enough for XC.

I'd go for a tougher rim if you are getting a bit of airtime/downhilling. The 719s are just beefy XC rims really.

Forks - Rock Shox Pike 426 U-Turn<s><font color="red"> & Poploc 2007</font id="red"></s> - turn the knob with your hand - less cables - less fuss - less weight - cheaper.
    Front wheel - Pro 2 with a '07 <s><font color="red">XM719</font id="red"></s>XM321 or EX721
Cranks <s>-<font color="red"> Saints, no brainer really never heard a bad word against them -</font id="red"></s> hones are plenty good enough for what you want, cheaper and lighter - get the 2 ring with bash ones though as they have the pedal inserts.
Chain Guide - <s><font color="red">Blackspire Dew Lite Double Ring C4, I know nothing about chain guides as I've never used one but I here blackspire are a good brand</font id="red"></s> e.13 are a bit more expensive but are suposed to be generally better, and quieter.

Yeah, witht the money you could save on forks and cranks, you should be able to improve on the rims and chainguide

The pikes sound like the perfect choice for your type of riding, great forks.

Go for an E13. If you fancy going double front rig the DRS chain device will suit you, if not the extensive range of singel ring ones would be more than fine. I've had no problems or chain slippage of mine in ahout a year! (Although before I set it up nicely it was shi<u></u>t, but it's mint now lol).

i wouldn't if i was you, its just as easy to lean down and flick the motion control switch. you pay more for it, its more cumbersome cables than you need, more maintainence, more hassle.

I was really impressed with my new hope minis(07s), extremely reliable and robust. Different option, although i never hear a good word said about them on this forum.
  • Would like to ditch the pop-lock but no one seems to sell it in black without, silver would just look dodgy with the rest of my bike.
Will have to go see my LBS tomorrow and see if he can source one, otherwise can it be taken off?

Edit: Bit out of touch but aren't the mini's qr only?
Edit2:Checked CRC, Wiggle, google, Hope website and I can't find any hope mini hubs only mono's, where did you find them?

i *think* he is talking about brakes.

no - 07 pike 426 come in silver w/o pop lock and black w. poplock. you can take it off, but you don't have the erganomic flicky thing on top, you'll just have a round knob.

  • Thought as much, well I'll get it with and if it gets in the way/bugs me enough I'll take it off. The things I do for a colour co-ordinated bike, I'll be buying my shoes to match it next [:D]. Ta again
