I haven't actually bought it yet but apparently it works intermittently. its only œ60 and if I could fix it that would be a bargain

had 2 die now, one CD rom and one 3 lights.

tell me the code and order (my last 3 lights were 2,3,4 on red) - overheated CPU, threw it back @ Virgin with DTI sales of goods act (which states the retailer HAS to support the goods for 6 months BY LAW) the assistant had a strop and changed it.. the next one blew (cd rom) a week later.. went in again same assistant again.. same strop... my bro was about to kill him when he said he would swap it "ONE LAST TIME" .. yer thanks... POS MS XBox's

Yea how many lights are on, you're only truly boned if its 4. The rest is either cables or power supply or dirty disc.

2,3,4 means overheated CPU most common one. remove the case and refit the CPU cooler and cables should work then..

Power Supply. Ive had it, it just wasnt plugged in properly. Althought it oculd be the unit on the socket has gone but theyre about 40quid.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907534 It's usually something stupid but people are ignorant. Don't go opening the case without being sure either, void warranty etc.

can you explain what you mean by 2,3,4? does that mean that the top left light is the only one not illuminated?

exactly..

2,3,4 means the lights at 3-6 6-9 9-12 are lit.

General hardware failure.

The specific type of hardware failure can be determined by a "hidden" error code

* Turn the xbox 360 on, and wait till the 3 red lights are flashing.
* Press and hold the sync up button (the small white one), while holding that button press the eject button.
* The LEDs will now blink the first number in the code (as described below).
* Release the eject button and press it again.
* The LEDs will now blink the second number of the code.
* Release the eject button and press it again.
* The LEDs will now blink the third number of the code.
* Release the eject button and press it again.
* The LEDs will now blink the forth number of the code.
* Release the eject button and press it again.
* The LEDs will go back to the 3 red flashing lights.

You should be able to determine the difference between the 3 flashing lights and the error code lights by the rate in which they flash.

Here is how you interpret the LEDs to get the code number:

* All four lights flashing - 0
* One light flashing - 1
* Two Lights flashing - 2
* Three lights flashing - 3
