Dalby / Coed Y Brenin

Right, here goes;
Me and a mate are trying to go biking somewhere in the summer holiday time but are really stumped as to where to go. Basically the problem is that we would be going with my parents to share the same accomodation and we would take a car and go off on our own. However im stuck with thinking of places to go that can satisfy both things in the same area. They really want to go to Yorkshire so would make Dalby Forest the nearest riding spot, but havnt really got much of an idea as to what Dalby has to offer in terms of amount of riding, type of riding, and qualiy of riding. I want a bit of variety like singletrack trails with drop offs and jumps etc. but also with some kind of freeride type areas to mess about on (Think Glentress). Also i went to Coed Y Brenin a couple of years back which was really good, but only did the one trail, and was wondering what its like for variety (as mentioned above) and if theres anything else in any of those 2 areas that could help keep us entertained for either a week or two. Any other suggestions welcomed as well.
Thanks,
Dan

dalby has got some single track, and also some northshore. All the trails that were being built are finished now i think.

Dalby has a 23 mile red route, most of which is singletrack & new this year. It's superb, lots of folks seem to agree too!.
Also a black route which is about 10 miles long IIRC.
There is also the Dixons Hollow skills area with a small 4x style track, some large tabletops & some northshore which is not very high & quite a testing skinnies section.

I can second a vote for Dalby, in it's current state it's excellent. The red is pretty much all singletrack, but if you buy a map it's perfectly possible to break it up into 4 smaller more manageable chunks. Some of the singletrack is pretty taxing - there's a lot of ~1' drops, some a bit higher and often in staircases, so to speak. The 4X track is good for a play, as is the northshore, although it's not massively expansive. I believe there's also a downhill track somewhere, although I'm not sure if it's open yet.
There's lots of non-biking stuff in and around the forest too, and it's not far to lots of more traditional holiday fare.

I can vouch for dalby being good, i've been 3 times now and not really been disappointed at all. I've also been to Coed-Y-Brenin, and although it was brilliant, and good mtb, I didn't really enjoy it, if you get what I mean. my light xc rig didn't help, I'd have much prefered to do it on a mid travel full sus, it would have been more enjoyable then. But still, go to dalby.

Where is this Dalby place?
Is it worth a drive of over 100 miles to get there?
Can you camp in the forest?

Nearest village to Dalby
I drive 75 miles each way to get there, so (IMHO) it is worth it.
There is a campsite on the road upto Dalby, Pexton Moor Farm.

iv ridden all the new trails at coed y brenin. some damned good stuff there but its really rocky. it would have been 100% more fun on a sus bike.

I think we drive about 50-60 miles to Dalby, might be a bit less. Definitely worth the effort though, and there's plenty to keep you busy for a few days.
New forum meet at Dalby for non-Southerners?

I'd be up for it (depending on the date).
It's 75 miles from Grimsby, so you're about right with 60 from 'Ull [;)]

Heh, Grimsby. Not been there in a while. I'd be up for it pretty much any Sunday really, always good to meet new people. Although I'm very slow.
