XC and All-Mountain

Can anyone shed light on what the difference between XC and all-mounting riding are?
I have a 'hopper disc '07 and use it for what I think is XC, but I do like hitting a few little kickers every now and again along the trail, no superman seat grabs and the like, just a second or two of quality airtime!
So i'm thinking the two different disciplines are actually quite similar, am I right?

Trail/Freeride Lite/HARDCOREEEEE XC
Call it what you want, its the riding most of us do. Ride the bike uphill, rag it down. Get a bit of air time, hit some rock gardens and have a bit of fun on the bike.

I think its mostly bigger drops and a bit more rocky rather then nippy little single tracks.
I think...

I think of AM as more adventurous XC.
but then I thought that Freeride was taking a shortcut through some woods where there was no path...

The way I decide is if I take the Orange its going to be more AM/FR (whatever you want to call) than XC and if I take the Club Roost its going to be more XC than AM.
Orange Patriot 66 FR
Clubroost XC-4

Cross country is the kind of riding I do now, but I`m not racing on a featherlite bike. I`m covering allsorts of terrain from drops/climbs/singletrack/NO Trail at all/lifting/DH and the rest. I call it cross country but its probably something else.
Guess the frame in my picture!!!...the system......you can`t beat it.0 -

XC to me is kind of just general riding but nothing too scary and in the quickest times.
All mountain would have more adventurous terrain with meatier drops and rock garden shinanigans. Stuff you'd need a bit more travel for.

I think there is 3 distinct type of bikes in this are, with overlap of course:
XC - sub 100mm travel either end, steep angles and long geometry.
Trail - standard bike, 100mm plus travel, for your woodsy stuff with more relaxed geometry and more upright position.
AM - at least 5 inches front and rear, slacker, and more sturdily built.

I have mx comp eta 85mm travel. On the bottom of the left leg it says 'cross country and all mountain,
underneath it says not to be used for extreme freeride, dirtjump, down hill

Well, there is always going to be some confusion, as different manufacturers have their own descriptions. MX Comps can be adjusted out to 120mm of travel. Given Zocchis beefier forks, its not one I'd want to do too many drops and jumps on!

... and I have 120mm MX Pro's and it says for XC only...
I think it depends on how many breakage reports they gat and whet the rider was doing at the time...
