** i apologize in advance if this is the wrong section, but i was unsure where to put it...?!? **
hi,
me and mates, (about 10 of us) have been emailing the local council about having some dirt jumps being built.
so far the request has got to the stage where we've now got a council meeting to go to, and its looking promising.
just wondering if anyones had this happen to them before? or asked the council, how likely is it that we get this?
also what are the sort of boundaries or guidelines set by the council, have you got to pay for any if youva had it happen to you before, what is it like, how much moneys needed?
all im really looking for is some advice from people who have had this happen before.
thanks, dan

I've never done anything of the sort (as I don't really have any riding mates, I ride with my dad (yeah I know, how sad, but no one rides around here, and I'm not in Wales (where my dad lives) to make mates up there)), but I'm just guessing that you are gonna have to build the trails, but thats probably it.
Way cool! Hope it all goes well.0 -
also if anyone has any pics of how theyre council built trails have turned out, then please post, thanks

Trails built by the council will be tabletops, small tabletops, nothing more, nothing less.

If it's anything like the skatepark we tried to get our council to build it'll take around 6 years.
We went to loads of "council meetings" that never progressed to anything more than a half promise.
When they eventually got round to building the <s>park</s> 3 ramps, we (the group that had campaigned for the park for 6 years) had stopped skateboarding.
So my advice would be build them yourself and don't bother with the council. We have some jumps that have been in some local woods for years and they are still going strong.

I'd say your council could aspire to that. The reality is that even though those aren't the best in the world, councils (unless they genuinely take an interest, and hire an actual mtber to design them, which in some cases does happen) then they'll be shi<u></u>tty tables. Having said that, most attempts of councils building trails has been better than most attempts of councils building skateparks. Just keep persevering.

SOme of the people who I ride with got to a similar stage with our parish council, but they said that we would have to raise I think it was œ300 or something for it to happen - they would have been built in the village park, and tbh we could have just gone over with spades and built them ourselves, but I think they were going to be 'professionally' designed, and the dirt was going to be brought in from somewhere else.
But becuase of the lack of apparent interest in the plans from the council, they gave up on it, we've now got trails in the woods instead.

the picture of them trails above (posted by - ultimatebassist) look ok, they are about the sort of stuff / size we are riding at the moment, and poss. a bit bigger, and i dont really mind tables, infact i prefer them, doubles kinda scare me more, as my rims arent exactly strong and im more scared of breaking my bike :P
lookslike we shoyuld just persevere and see waht happens, we have tried to build our own trails before, but theyre corr blimey, and chavs wreck them, and the grass in the summer grows about 1.5m high.
thanks for that so far guys

The council built some jumps a few minutes from my house, and they were pretty cool, they had a tabletop, then a double, then a burm, with a tabletop and a huge double.
Also various small tabletops as well.
I dont go there anymore because some BMXers have taken it over and they are like 17/18, and they get well pissed off if a mtber rides on them.
They even started throwing rocks at us!!!

Build them deep in a hidden section of the woods, making it difficult for anyone unwelcome to find them, and make it difficult for council workers to get there with equipment to destroy them.
