Hi all this is my first post since joining.
When riding trails i struggle with downhill sections when it involves. Hard braking, turning, pedalling, changing gear and lifting the front wheel.
My problem is my grip on the bars. I continualy change my fingers between gears, brake and handle bar is this correct or should they remain in one position.
Sorry if this is a re-post i did a search but couldnt find anything similar. Cheers

you have shimano brakes? learn to manage it. or look at the brand new shimano triggers that allow thumb actuation of the gears and then you can keep the brakes covered. (Sram also allows this).
but before the advent of these "thumb" shifters it took practice.

Yeah Ive got trigger shift type (shimano deore).
Should i:
Have my thumb around the bar near the up-shifter.
Index finger inside the brake lever over the down-shifter.
Two middle fingers over the brake lever.
Little finger around the bar.
I can do this while riding steady, but when getting smashed about going downhill i dont feel comfortable like this so am constantly change grip for either, control, braking or changing gear.
Is it just a confedence thing? cheers0 -
you should not reallyhave to be changing your grip as much as you are implying. i would say a play with the position of your controls is needed as is the fork settings.

I tend not to change gear that much, and concentrate on pedaling and leave the gear shifting till I have time to do it.
