XT or Avid?

I'm in need of new brakes. XT or Avid's, bearing I mind I already have SRAM shifters, but there's this deal on XT.

I would go for Shimano brakes over the Avids. Having a set of juicy carbons on one bike and XTR on another I just prefer the all round performance of the XTR.

That's all fair, but have you actually tried any of the same priced juicys? If you have then don't you find them slightly less wooden and more progressive?

The only brakes I've experiences are Hayes 9, and Giant MPH, so anything is really going to be better.

i know (from other forums) / Know of people who have changed (upgraded) for Juicy 5's to Avids... The XT's are currently the most recomended brake on WMB forum and are praised in the highest... Definately the XT's... Which Avids are you looking at? I take it the 3/5? then definately the XT's... I would take advise off people who own avids, but not XT's/have properly tried XT's...

If I'm going to buy new brakes, I want decent ones, so am willing to spend the money. But the deal on XT seems an offer not to be missed.

What are you actually talking about? The Juicy carbon are the same sort of level as the XTR. Please don't make comments for the sake of making them.

don't you still need to buy the mounting brakets and rotors for the xt's?? if so you can add at least another œ50-œ60 on top of the brakes!
dont steal, the government dont like competition!

You can have a propper shot on my XTs next time, Rich. The levers, the modulation, the power; its all there.

I am really am starting to like the shimano brakes of late. I just like working with the mineral oil. I personaly think the Avids are the most over rated brakes around. There is nothing really wrong with them its just no matter how many times I ride on them or even work on them I never really like them that much. I really like the feel of the hopes the best though.0

I had the same dilema. I've just orderd the xt's. But gotta wait till the end of next month to get them in stock (Wiggle) It is a complete set so they will fit straight on?0

Very true, Andy. But then again, I'm only a student with œ7 in my bank account. The œ400 price hike over the XT groupset on Merlin didn't quite add up!

Well, you have more money now, since last time I spoke to you.
I'll probably go for the XTs, I've already had bad luck almost breaking something else that was expensive on it.

Avid's are more fashionable, XTs are better.
