Have a look at these...
œ400 Mongoose Tyax Super (Tektro Auriga comp hydraulic disc brakes,Fork-SR/Suntour XCR RL 100mm travel & rebound adjust)
œ425 Giant Terrago Disc (2007) (Suntour 100mm fork with lockout, Deore 27spd gears, Giant MPH3 hydraulic disc brakes)
The Mongoose has a very good spec level for the price & has better forks than the Hardrock (the 'Goose has damped forks.
The Giant is also a good value bike for the money, but not as good as the 'Goose.
As for sizing a 19" might be right, but if you can test before you buy it will help save hassle if you did get the wrong size.

19" is generally a frame size to fit up to 6', between 6' and 6'3" you will be looking at a 21" frame. If you are still growing then I would advise at least 21" if you want a specialized. You may get away with a 20" frame by other manufacturers depending on how their sizing works.Specialized Rockhopper '07

not specificaly looking for a specialized anything will do (within reason)
ive read some reviews about the mongoose and i was seriously considering it but in reveiws people where saying that the brakes are crap and fidly to adjust and stuff is their any truth behind this? i cant afford to upgrade them (yet)
think i had a look at that giant above (not sure tho) it didnt seem to catch my eye tho. brakes are good apparently.
cheers for replies so far

I know that a lower specced Mongoose got 'Best Budget Buy' or sub-œ300 Hardtail or somehitng like that in WMB, so I guess the Mongoose would be a good buy judging from that
On the otherhand, the Spesh is rock solid, and you could ride it for pretty much anything (within reason) - I know some people use them as DJ bikes (e.g. Flurry)
