Having a tough time choosing between the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp 2007 or Trek Fuel EX8 Limited edition.
Both seem excellent bikes, i was originally set on the Stumpy because it looks so nice but the limited ed Trek also looks fantastic and weights practically nothing.
What would you pick based on their specs ?
Stumpy

I'd get the spesh, based on specs.

both are fantastic bikes, not much in it spec-wise...
definately try both...
gotta say the paint-job on the Trek is gorgeous though(i'm not a fan of the 07 stumpys black-and-red look, which isn't too good considoring you see one every 5 minutes)... p.s. don't choose bikes based on the colour!

Ok i just test rode the Stumpy, Epic FSR and Trek 08 ( Not the custom paintjob version as i have decided i prefer the standard colour ), I actually found the Trek 08 to be a far nicer ride than the two specialized ,i even preferred the Epic over the stumpy which was surprising.
The stumpy for some reason ( even though setup properly ) felt like a full sus bike and abit less manouverable than the trek which felt more like a hardtail but gave all the benefits of a full Sus. Also i have never used SRAM shifters before and i can safely say it was the first and last time i will ever use a pair of them, truly horrible to shift with compared to the LX shifters of the Trek.
So that concludes my decision, Trek 08 Wins ( Now i just gotta save for a couple of months to buy it )___________________________________________________________

Sounds good, its definately a really nice bike.
And yeah, i'm not a SRAM fan... prefer how Shimano are a bit more gentle.. XTR all the way.

unles its a top fuel model, I wouldn't buy a trek. Had an s works stumpjumper ( two actually ) but now have a trance advanced, ok its the carbon one but would go for a trance over either of the bikes you're looking at0

It all depends on how much i want to spend. I am considering doing a custom build now Using the Viper RC 1.0 Frame. Although it will cost me abit more it will be just how i want it.___________________________________________________________

I rode the spesh again today, i rode the Medium because the first one i tried was a L. The Medium felt much nicer to ride, still abit iffy about the sram shifters because im so used to shimano ones. The spesh certainly is a beautiful bike thats for sure. I still have to save up œ1500 in the next month or two so ill see what happens when i have the cash ready.___________________________________________________________

Hmmm, tough choice. The Stumpy is such a nice bike on the singletrack. It has so much agility. I haven't ridden the Fuel range but they were massively improved for 07. Obviously I'm biased but I would suggest you give the Spesh a closer look.

I have a Trek EX8 in regular grey/silver. It is a great all round bike and can be turned to most types of riding. I, personally wouldnt pay the extra £100 for a fancy paint job, especially as some of the cheaper Treks look better anyway.
I couldnt say whether it is better than the Stumpy or vice versa. I was put off the Stumpy because you cant drop the saddle very far.
You should be able to get an EX8 for around £1300 now in the sales. Also consider the EX7 which has some parts downgraded, but those parts I have mostly changed anyway, a PIKE fork being next on my list. Streako

Thanks for the replies, having test rode them both i can say that i did prefer the feel of the trek slightly. I dont think im going to buy either now anyway as i have found the Cube AMS Pro 125 which seems to have both the trek and spesh beat for the look and components i want.It also very recently just won an award aswell which is always good to hear. Not a fan of Fox front forks which unfortunately both the trek and spesh come with.___________________________________________________________
