i want to know if the truvativ shift guide would be able to take just a single ring?
at the moment i run a 32t ring and this is where the problem is because not many chain devices will fit it.

32t, if you switch to 36t and change your sprocket at the back, then you'll find plenty of chain devices
Not sure about the shift guide, but if your cranks are 4-bolt, then this might do the job.
otherwise
EDIT: Shift Guide looks like you need a front mech for it to work

yeah im now thinking of changing to 34/36t because the box guide will fit then and more possibilities with other devices. just i liked 32 because it was easier peddaling :P

nah, if you change the sprocket at the back to keep the ratio the same, the pedalling should be just as easy?

No problem, there are probably more out there if you look around
