which way to go?

Returning to trail riding after a 10 year 'rest' I find myself not getting up the hills like I used to a spending a good portion of my time on my arse. Things have moved on a bit aswell - there was no full sus or even front sus in my day, oh no gud old rigid and you takes your chance!
Obviously i want to take advantage of this new fangled techno. and was about to spend an appreciable amount of cash on a full sus but having looked a little more closely into this i find that this may not be the best route - my skills are shot + i need to relearn + I hear full sus is not the way forward to do this. So my question is this - If i spent about a grand on a nice hardtail - something like the trek 8000, run it for a couple of years would it then be possible to buy a full sus frame and transfer all the running gear over from the hardtail? or would this not make economic sense?
Cheers - Nik

sounds a jolly good idea to me.
The frame may still sell for around œ200 at that point, which will help you toward the susser if you still want it.
you will lose some money through depreciation on the frame, but it will give you a chance to see if you really want to go full suss. many people are happy to stay on hardtail.

get a lockoutable full sus?
My bike's got 3 settings for the rear shock, fully locked, semi-locked (with a dial for hardness) and full sus, and the forks can be on 140mm, 120mm or 100mm, or fully locked out. Set me back œ1150, and it's only 14kg. Best of both worlds.

I thought about this but knowing myself id keep the suspension on when I should be learning with it locked out - just too tempting!0
